Lauren C. Costantini, PhD

I’ve been known to ‘Take the Leap’ many times in life. My circuitous path started as a singer and dancer in New York, followed by a PhD in Neuroscience, then on faculty at Harvard Medical School developing treatments for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. I hold several patents, have published multiple peer-reviewed publications, and have written many book chapters and on-line columns.

I left Boston academia and moved to San Francisco to take the leap and climb the corporate ladder. But I kept hearing about Boulder Colorado - “the mecca of outdoor athletics”. So I packed up and moved there! I founded a biotech consulting firm, then became the CEO of a wearable sensors company. My TedXTalk describes how - by accessing the data our bodies are constantly radiating - we can elevate ourselves to our highest potential. This is my passion!

As a professional bike racer, I was fortunate to have been on the podium of national mountain bike and cyclocross races, and won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Masters Mountain Biking. But after 5 years as a biotech CEO, I looked around and realized the top of the career ladder was not as fulfilling as expected. I took another leap and resigned as CEO, traveled the country solo in my Sprinter van for 4 months, and hatched P.E.D.A.L. Mountain Bike Adventures, which quickly became as successful as it is fulfilling!

Then it all came to a screeching halt: my body was starting to break down after a lifetime of nonstop dance, sports, and stress: I needed back surgery. After facing back fusion surgery in 2019 (L5/S1 TLIF), I spent 3 months recovering on the couch and researching scientific peer-reviewed journals to identify the best foods to enhance my recovery. Little did I know that my findings would not only provide a remarkable recovery from surgery, but also elevate my performance and vitality after my recovery.

With changes in my nutrition, fine-tuning my strength program, and shaking up old habits, I have become stronger in all my athletic activities, leaner and more defined in body composition, have unlimited energy, and overcame my troubled sleeping. Listen to this podcast I was invited to give where I describe how I’ve literally turned back the clock, and want to share this knowledge with you! Let me be your nutritionist, your personal trainer, and your sleep coach!

My Approach

No nonsense

My approach is science-based and no nonsense. I’ve taken my science and human performance expertise, and applied them to nutrition, biomechanics and mindset. I cut through the media hype to identify what works and what doesn't, based on DATA.

I walk the walk

In my 5th decade of life, I’m athletically performing at the highest level, more energetic and vibrant than decades ago. There’s nothing more motivating than following a proven roadmap from a person who has accomplished what you want to accomplish.

Plant-based leaning

My extensive research comparing all the known diets has shown that a whole-food, plant-based diet is superior for health, athletic performance, injury recovery and longevity. It’s certainly not for everyone, so we’ll work together to maximize which nutrition path is right for you.
